1986 - 2016

Franklin Drew Umholtz, 30, of Wylie, Texas, passed away Sept. 29, 2016, in Plano, Texas.

He was born July 18, 1986, in Dallas, Texas, to Roger and Kathleen Hellemann Umholtz.

Franklin is survived by his mother, Kathleen Morrison; father, Roger Umholtz; sister, Ashley (Koree) Chandler; niece, Haylee Chandler; nephew, Riley Chandler; grandmother, Ruth Hellemann; grandfather, John Umholtz; aunts, Melissa (Darren) Howlett, and Lisa (Lee Kleinman) Umholtz ; uncles, Vincent (Renee) Umholtz and Stewart Umholtz.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Franklin Hellemann and grandmother, Julia Umholtz.

Franklin was a soldier in the United States Army Reserve, Unit 223 Transportation Company out of Grand Prairie, Texas, as well as a member of the Honor Guard, and he worked for Coca Cola as a merchandiser for two years. Franklin loved his niece, Haylee and his nephew, Riley. They always made him smile. He enjoyed cars, motorcycles, and video games, and he was quite a movie buff. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Sachse.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Charles W. Smith & Sons Chapel in Sachse. Honorary pallbearers will be David Kleinman, Nick Umholtz, Tyler Howlett, Koree Chandler, Brian Sanders, William Dauria, Darren Howlett, Lee Kleinman and Hector Benavides.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made in Franklin’s name to The Haylee and Riley Chandler Trust Fund or to support local veteran organizations.
