1927 - 2016
Lyle Flexsenhar, 89, of Green Valley, passed away at 6:49 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at Pekin Manor.
He was born April 6, 1927, in Green Valley to Walter and Lula Morgan Flexsenhar. He married Frances Ryan on March 2, 1947, in Green Valley, and she survives.
They were blessed with four children, Reg (Sharon) Flexsenhar of Green Valley, Lynda (William) Riekena of Bartonville, Mary Gayle Williams, who passed away in 1985, and Joyce (Raymond) Riekena of Canton; 10 grandchildren, Lance (Mary) Flexsenhar of Des Plaines, Quinn (Amy) Flexsenhar of Wildwood, Mo., Brandon (Holly) Flexsenhar of Green Valley, Crystal (Patrick) Elliott of Mapleton, Travis Riekena of Bethlehem, Pa., Adam Riekena of Bartonville, Caleb (Weslie) Williams of Brownsburg, Ind., Bryan Riekena of Colp, Ill., Renee (Clay) Brinker of Oak Ridge, NC, and Kyle Riekena of San Francisco, Calif.; three great granddaughters and three great grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wayne; and two sisters, Juanita and Grace.
Lyle and his family moved from Green Valley to Leroy, where his father farmed. The family returned to Green Valley in 1941, where he graduated from Green Valley High School in 1947. He loved every aspect of farming and farmed in the Green Valley area all his adult life.
In his younger years, Lyle loved to ballroom dance, was an exceptional trick water skier, enjoyed golfing, was a magician, and was a very good mechanic and inventor.
He was a lifelong member of St. John’s (Sand Prairie) Lutheran Church, Green Valley, where his funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016. The Revs. Chris Sansom and Kevin Bueltmann, and DCE Bill Krueger will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Green Valley Cemetery. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is handling the arrangements.
