1957 - 2016

Kim Ann Vander Leest Duchnowski, 59, of Hindsboro, passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, at her home, after a prolonged treatment for acute myeloid leukemia.

Kim was born May 5, 1957, in Peoria to Kenneth and Sondra Matthew Vander Leest. She married Lenard Joseph Duchnowski Dec. 27, 1976, at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Pekin.

She is survived by her husband, Lenard Duchnowski; three children, Jillian (Rob Carroll) Duchnowski of Rockford, Alexander (Mia) Duchnowski of Chicago and Nicholas Duchnowski of Louisville, Ky.; her father, Kenneth Vander Leest of Peoria; a brother, Kurt (Lisa) Vander Leest of Bristow, Va.; a sister, Krista Vander Leest of Springfield; and three grandchildren, Tabytha, Thiesson and Kempson Duchnowski.

She was preceded in death by her mother and a brother, Kent Vander Leest.

She was an artist at heart and created framed fabric art, quilts, decorative tile and purses for friends and family, as well as for her home. She loved working in her gardens and caring for her dogs and the other animals on Willow Walk Farm. She was active in her children’s education as a classroom volunteer, PTO president and Girl Scout Troop leader. As her children got older, she also hosted foreign exchange students.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, . at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to “Lenard Duchnowski for the benefit of SBL Cancer Center”, 2210 E County Road 275N, Hindsboro, IL, 61930, to provide a larger combined named gift to the Sarah Bush Lincoln Cancer Center in Mattoon.
