1927 - 2016

Betty Jean Czirr Talbot, 89, formerly of Pekin and Sarasota, Fla., passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, in Fort Pierce, Fla.

Born April 18, 1927, in Jersey City, N.J., she resided in Oak Park, Ill., and Lyons, N.Y., before becoming a long-time resident of Pekin, and later Sarasota.

A lifelong educator, Betty earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in Education from Lawrence College and Oswego College, and enjoyed teaching elementary education for many years, pausing only to raise her family. She kept involved in several community activities and was also very active at both Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin, and St. John’s United Methodist Church in Sarasota.

Although an educator by vocation, Betty was also a lifelong student who never lost her zeal for learning. She was an avid reader, gifted writer and talented bridge player. She was also a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother always ready with kind words of encouragement, support or consolation. She will long and warmly be remembered by her family and by the many, many lives she touched and people she taught along the way.

Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Wayne E. Talbot; her parents, Reinhold and Elsie Blum Czirr; and her brother, Robert B. Czirr.

She is survived by her sister, Nancy Jo (Richard) Rehbock of Bradenton; three children, Russ (Theresa) Talbot of Arlington Heights, Ill., Jean (Tom) Gifford of Port. St. Lucie, Fla., and John (Christina) Talbot of Danville, Calif.; and was blessed with grandchildren, Christian and Martin Talbot, Doug and Katie Gifford, and Haley, Jessica, Tad and Sydney Talbot.

A private memorial service in Sarasota, Fla., for close family and friends is planned.
