The Kiwanis Sunset Club is selling tickets to a St. Patrick’s Day murder mystery fundraising event that the club president said should be a fun, engaging and entertaining evening.

The premise of the show, which is called “Bad Luck of the Irish,” takes place at an Irish wake for Patrick O’Reilly. During the course of celebrating O’Reilly’s life, a lot of “blarney is going about” and before the end of the night more than just green beer will be spilled. Doors will open at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Avanti’s Dome in Pekin. The dinner buffet starts at 6:30 p.m.

Kiwanis Sunset Club president Mike Eeten said he went to a murder mystery dinner a few years ago and was not sure what to expect. He is looking forward to this production, because the last one he went to was so good and was put on by the same group of professional actors.

“It is a fun time, a lot of laughs,” said Eeten. “It’s very engaging and entertaining. It is a fun evening, especially if you’ve never been to one before.”

When doors open, the cast starts to mingle with the audience right away, and they will drop hints and clues along the way. Eeten encourages people who have never been to a show like this to pay attention even if they are not sure what is happening.

“You may have someone sit next to you and talk to you and mention someone’s name,” Eeten said. “At first I did not know I needed to remember those names, but they will be important. They might leave something behind like a purse, and you can go through it and look for clues. All those clues are important to help start piecing it together.”

The event is a fundraiser for Kiwanis Sunset Club. The organization helps fund projects in the Pekin community, and they depend on holding events like “Bad Luck of the Irish” to be able to continue their efforts.

Eeten said in the past they have purchased a 3-D printer for Pekin Community High School, bought Christmas gifts for a local family in need and donated money to the Pekin Police Department for their Shop with a Hero program. They have also contributed to the Dragon Closet at PCHS, which has clothes, shoes and personal hygiene items for high school students in need.

Tickets for the murder mystery evening are $35 per person or $60 per couple and may be purchased in advance by calling Amanda at 309-620-2652 or visiting avantisdome.com and clicking on the “special events” tab.
