Andy's Diner, a Pekin eatery for over five decades, will be serving food for the last time on Sunday, July 15, according to a post on its Facebook page Monday night.

Andy Krakos opened three eateries in the early 1950s. Before Krakos' death in 1967, two were opened in Pekin. Only one remains, the diner at Eighth and Willow streets in Pekin. Its current owners are Lisa and Tom Poole, who bought the diner close to eight years ago.

"I want to start off with thanking everyone for the last almost 8 years," the Facebook post stated. "We have met the best people and have really enjoyed being a part of your daily life. It was a privilege being your diner these last years. However it has come a time for us to move to a new step in our lives. Andy's and you all have taught us a lot...Thank you for your friendship, support and loyalty."

The Pekin Daily Times will have a more in-depth story on the closing later in the week.
