EUREKA — Citing personal reasons, Chairman Stan Glazier has resigned from the Woodford County Board.
"Due to ongoing health issues and increasing family responsibilities, I feel that I can no longer dedicate the amount of time needed to adequately continue serving the Woodford County Board and my constituents" Glazier wrote to Vice Chairman Doug Huser and the rest of the board members in a letter dated Nov. 16.
Glazier did not respond on Tuesday to attempts to reach him to expand on his resignation letter.
Huser could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.
Glazier served on the county board from 2006 to 2014, as its chairman from 2010 to 2014. He chose not to run for re-election in 2014, but returned to the board in 2016, when he was one of three candidates to advance from the Republican primary in the county's 3rd District. There were no Democratic candidates in that election.
He was selected to be chairman a second time in his second stint on the board in December 2017. His term as chairman ended 11 months later with his letter of resignation.
"I hereby tender my resignation from the Woodford County Board, effective immediately. Sincerely, Stanley K. Glazier," the two-sentence letter concluded.
Glazier's resignation caused a bit of a leadership vacuum at the most recent board meeting on Nov. 20. Glazier was four days removed from the board that day and assistant chairman Huser was absent due to the death of his father. That left board member Richard Hill to run the meeting that was notable for the board's rejection of legal advice from State's Attorney Greg Minger and its subsequent rejection by a 10-2 vote of a special exception request for a solar farm outside of Eureka.
An organizational meeting Monday will address the vacancy of the permanent chairman position. The board will first elect a temporary chairman, followed by nominations and a vote on a permanent chairman. The meeting will conclude with the nomination and election of a new vice chairman, the selection of standing committees by the new chairman, public input, a new seating arrangement and roll call order and adoption of rules for the coming year.
The organizational meeting is at 6:45 p.m. inside the County Board Room, 115 N. Main Street, Eureka.
