EAST PEORIA — A man bleeding profusely from cuts to his neck and arms was found in a vehicle parked Saturday night at an East Peoria industrial business, authorities said.
About 8 p.m., officers were called to Armature Motor & Pump Co., 3011 N. Main St., after employees who were driving past it noticed an unfamiliar automobile in the parking lot.
The employees found what appeared to be an injured, unidentified middle-aged man alone inside the car, East Peoria police Chief Steve Roegge said.
Once the employees saw the man's lacerations, they called for emergency help. Rescuers apparently spoke with the man briefly, but he drifted out of consciousness.
The man was transported to a Peoria hospital. He was alive as of about 9:30 p.m., Roegge said. East Peoria officers were with the man at the hospital.
A knife was recovered nearby, Roegge said. Officers could be seen with flashlights in the darkness as they probed adjacent properties.
It appeared the man had no connection to Armature Motor & Pump Co., according to Roegge. He also said no suspects were being sought.
"Right now, we have to look at all avenues," Roegge said when asked if this might have been a suicide attempt. "I don't want to say it is or it isn't at this point in time.
"We do not have any information to believe that anybody attacked him, but that's still under investigation. We have to investigate everything as a crime until it's determined it's not."
Yellow crime-scene tape cordoned the area where the car was parked. At least a half-dozen East Peoria squad cars were at the scene.
The business is located between the Illinois River and U.S. routes 24 and 150 and Illinois Route 116, just south of the McClugage Bridge.
