Christmas is still three months away, but some retailers are already starting to hire seasonal workers to keep stores adequately staffed during the busy holiday season.
With low unemployment rates in most of the country, finding those workers could prove a challenge.
Among the first chains to hang a "help wanted" sign is Kohl's. The Wisconsin-based department store plans to add 90,000 seasonal workers this year.

A first-ever national hiring event, set for Oct. 5 at Kohl's stores nationwide, aims to hire 5,000 workers in just one day. Verbal job offers will be made, in some cases, on the spot.
Also new this year, Kohl's will set up "power centers" at 135 of its stores, allowing seasonal workers to help fulfill an expected rush of online orders.
“Our early hiring strategy continues to work well for us — with thousands of seasonal associates already hired and beginning their seasonal positions at Kohl’s,” Marc Chini, senior executive vice president and chief people officer for Kohl's, said in a written statement. “We continue to see tremendous interest from talented candidates ready to join our results-oriented team across our entire network of stores, e-commerce fulfillment and distribution centers nationwide. We are confident our strategy will once again position Kohl’s to meet holiday demand and provide the incredible service our customers know and expect from Kohl’s.”
