A free paper is expensive

Staff Writer
Woodford Times

As you may have noticed from our Happy Birthday ads in this paper the first two weeks of May, we here at TimesNewspapers are pretty pleased to be marking our one-year anniversary publishing the Woodford Times.

The comments we have received about the Woodford Times have been overwhelmingly positive. During my 36 years in the newspaper business, I have have never been a part of a publication that received such overwhelming acceptance and community enthusiasm.

We put veteran journalists DeWayne Bartels, editor, and Tom Batters, sports editor, on this publication and the result has been a true community newspaper that we hope you find informative, insightful and entertaining.

A true community newspaper reflects its community, holds governmental bodies accountable, looks toward the future and supports the various endeavors of the community and its citizens.

Frankly, a true community newspaper may become regarded as a public service, rather than as the business that it is.

There are, of course, expenses related to the news-gathering, printing and distribution of a newspaper.

That is why, once a year we are going to be asking you, our readers, for a voluntary donation to the Woodford Times. Our first-ever Woodford Times voluntary subscription drive begins today with an envelope inside the pages of this newspaper. You can use that envelope to send in your donation, in whatever amount you choose. Without a pre-printed envelope, you can address your voluntary subscription to: Woodford Times, P.O. Box 9426, Peoria, IL 61612.

We hope you will take this opportunity to support the newspaper that brings you hometown news. I thank you in advance for your support of the voluntary subscription drive and for the enthusiastic reception the Woodford Times has received.
