Storm knocks out power

A storm packing 60 MPH straight-line winds came thought Peoria this morning uprooting trees and knocking down power lines throughout the Peoria area.

AmerenCILCO spokesman Neal Johnson said the Greater Peoria Area took the brunt of the storm.

He said many tree limbs came down on wires and entire trees were uprooted taking out power lines.

One notable case was an uprooted tree at 3923 N. Knoxville. The uprooted tree sheared off at least one light pole and forced the closure of N. Knoxville at War Memorial Drive.

Johnson said as of 8 a.m. 27,000 customers in Central Illinois were without power.

In Peoria there were 4,500 customers without power.

In Peoria Heights there were 336 customers without power.

In East Peoria there were 1,086 customers without power.

"We'll be working throughout the day restoring power," Johnson said.

"We can't give an estimate on how long it will take. We're still finding damage."
