Dunlap's season ends, but future is bright

No sports fan likes to hear the words, "Wait until next year." That usually means that the season has come to a disappointing end, and next year always seems so far away. Dunlap's soccer team lost to Morton, 4-0, in the Sectional semifinal game Tuesday night. The Eagles will lose several key seniors from this year's team, but a group of star players will return, which should make the Eagles a favorite to land right back in the Sectionals and beyond.

Goalkeeper Dan Merriman, who made one of the most spectacular saves of the season (for any team), will return, as will star goal scorer and passer Jacob Abou-Hanna. Early in the game against Morton, Merriman deflected a shot right at him, which rolled right to Morton's Logan Simpson. Simpson blasted the kick toward toward the corner of the net. Merriman dove flat out to his left and tipped the ball with his fingertips for the tremendous save. "Sweeper" Eric Mauser, an under-rated defensive player, will also return, along with talented midfielders Chase Salazar and Derek Mills.

Next year will be here before too long...
