The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that construction has begun on IL 40 from just south of Hickory Grove Rd. to just north of Cedar Hills Dr. in Peoria County.

This project consists of widening IL 40 from two lanes to four lanes, with a bi-directional middle turn lane. Intersecting side roads will be reconstructed or relocated and new frontage roads and service drives will be constructed to control access.

Work in 2009 will include moving dirt and building the embankment and sub base that the new lanes of IL 40 are to be constructed on, as well as new storm sewers. Motorists will experience minimal lane reductions this year as the majority of the work will take place to the west of existing IL 40. There is no intersection work scheduled for 2009.

Updates on lane shifts and reductions at major intersections will be forthcoming as work progresses into next year. This work is scheduled to be completed and all lanes open to traffic by December 2010.
