Rant & Rave: Are there any quiet restaurants?

Is it just me or does it seem like there are no quiet restaurants anymore?

Last week, my family, friends and I went to eat at Donnelly’s in Peoria for my birthday dinner.

There were 10 in our group.

During the hour-and-a-half that we were there, the noise level kept growing and growing. Eventually, we were actually shouting to talk. It seemed as if groups at nearby tables were competing to talk over each other.

While the food was great and my parents said they would definitely go back to try other menu items, the atmosphere was disappointing that night.

A few days later, I ate with my boyfriend, my mom and stepdad at Fiesta Ranchera in East Peoria. There was only one other couple in the same room as we were. But a waiter kept walking by our table with a noisy cart.

On Friday, I ate at Wine Country in the Heights. A friend bought me a late lunch for my birthday. As we chatted and enjoyed the weather and the awesome food (I highly recommend the chicken salad on a croissant), noisy trucks drove by.

I mentioned to my friend that there are no longer any quiet restaurants, you know, like the ones you see in the movies. She just thought I was irritable, but then said she had a similar experience recently.

Maybe I will start eating at home more where my boyfriend always likes to have the TV on during dinner.
