Nitrate testing offered

The Woodford County Health Department is hosting a “Test Your Well” event Sept. 9.

The event will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Jefferson Park in El Paso during the El Paso Corn Festival.

Nitrates occur naturally in water. Higher levels of nitrates are potentially dangerous for infants. If infants are drinking well water the nitrate levels should be tested.

Interested well owners should bring a sample of their water in an approved container available at the health department at 1831 S. Main St. in Eureka. Approved containers can also be picked up at the table the night of the event.

The testing is free.
