Upon learning that Illinois Department Corrections Direction Michael Randle resigned, State Sen. Dan Rutherford (R-Pontiac) stresses the need for responsible leadership in Illinois Departments.

“The departure of Director Randle brings to the forefront the need to ensure that an agency director is ready to handle the responsibility of their department,” Rutherford stated. “We need individuals who understand the unique challenges that their agency presents.”

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is one of the largest departments in Illinois. DOC has significant assets and a large number of employees. DOC also has the responsibility of protecting the public.

“A strong leader is particularly important to the State as a strategic, long range plan for Corrections is developed. With two DOC facilities in my district, I know such a plan will play a critical role in keeping the public safe, as well as protecting inmates,” Rutherford said.
