Discussion of prayer breakfast at Woman's Club meeting

The February meeting of the Il GFWC Metamora Woman's Club was held on Feb. 22 and featured a program on candy-making by Elisha Bachman and her assistant, her mother, Linda Silver. 

Business brought before the membership included plans  for the Annual Community Prayer Breakfast to be held on April 12 at  the Snyder Village Community Center. 

Tickets will be available through Maryann Breitbarth, and reservations may be made for tickets to be picked up at the door. For tickets call 357-4768. 

Members were also asked to bring donated canned goods, paper goods, and non-perishable food to be used to create Easter baskets for area veterans in need. Items are being collected at Christian Union Church, which has donated $250 to this cause. Donations are also being accepted from the community for the needy veterans, and food may be left near the door to the community room, in the storage room.

Nancy Bernius is chairing this effort for the Public Issues Department.

Arlene Rush, chairman of the Arts  Department announced the winners of the club-sponsored Art and Writing Contests at the meeting. Winners in the Youth Writing Contest for : Poetry-Lauren Williams Cat.II  Grades 3-5, and Savannah Smick Cat. III Grades 6-8;  For Short Story-Makenna Yergler, Cat. II Grades 3-5 and Sarah Auer Cat IV  Grades 9-12 .Winners for the Youth Art Contest :   Grades 4-6 : 1st-Emily Morgan, 2nd -Katelynn Cotton, 3rd-Brooke Scheirer and 3rd -Emily Morgan;  Grades 7-9: 1st- Paige Johnson, 2nd-Andrew Bennett, 3rd-Chelsea Hare;  Grades 10-12:1st -Sarah Velling. All but one entry passed at district judging and were sent on to the state judging for consideration.

Club members are also selling Longaberger Baskets to help support their many community projects. Anyone who wishes to purchase baskets may view a catalog by calling Nancy Bernius at 367-4802. 

The March Meeting of the GFWC Metamora Woman's Club will be held on March 21 at the Christian Union Church in Metamora, at 7 p.m. All women of the community are invited to attend and the program will be presented by Mr. Pat Willis,  Long Term Care Ombundsman .
