EC Spring Concert to feature MTHS Chorale

The Eureka College Chorale and Chamber Singers will present their free spring concert at 4 p.m. April 10 in Becker Auditorium in the Cerf Center. A reception will follow.

The concert will feature the Metamora Township High School Chorale directed by Todd Cheek, who is an alumnus of Eureka College.

The Eureka College groups will perform “Die Nachtigall” by Felix Mendelssohn, “Two Songs from Five Childhood Lyrics” by John Rutter, “Songs of Nature, Op. 63” by Antonin Dvorak, “To Musique” by David Dickau, “Sure on This Shining Night” by Morten Lauridsen, “Der Abend” from “Drei Quartette Op. 64” by Johannes Brahms, selections from “The Music Man” by Meredith Willson, fuguing tunes by William Billings, “Kpanlongo,” which is a West African folk song, and other selections.

The Metamora students will perform a repertoire including “I Am His Child” by Moses Hogan, “Jenny Rebecca” arranged by Clair T. McElfresh, “Niska Banja” arranged by Nick Page, “I Dream A World” by Andre Thomas and “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” arranged by Ed Lojeski.

Music professor Joseph Henry will direct the college vocal ensembles. Assistant professor of music Pamela Bates will provide piano accompaniment.

The concert is sponsored by the Eureka College Music Department and Division of Fine and Performing Arts.
