The Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois has announced its endorsement of Jason Barickman in the Republican primary for the 53rd Senate District.

The AFFI represents more than 15,000 members in 211 communities across the state. The firefighters in a press release said Barickman will be the best advocate for public safety and ensure Illinois firefighters have the resources necessary to keep the citizens and first responders safe.

“Representative Barickman’s stance on issues important not only to firefighters, but to all working men and women in his district and the state has impressed us.” said Pat Devaney, President of the AFFI. “At a time when financial resources are at a premium, it’s good to know the voters have an opportunity to elect someone with fiscal integrity as well as concern for public safety and a real plan to help our communities create jobs.”

AFFI Legislative Representative Chuck Sullivan said “Representative Barickman’s willingness to work with us on serious and complex issues is commendable. We appreciate his determination to represent all of the people of the 53rd Senate District.”

“I’m proud to have the support of the men and women who put their lives on the line everyday to protect our communities.” said Representative Barickman. “I look forward in joining them to help our communities create jobs and help lead on the issues important to the people of the 53rd District.”

The AFFI is among the most respected advocacy groups before the Illinois General Assembly and represents firefighters’ efforts statewide in protecting lives and property from fire and other catastrophic events.

Barickman has served in the Illinois House of Representatives since 2011, and under new legislative maps, is seeking the 53rd Senate District seat, which includes portions of Ford, Iroquois, Livingston, McLean, Vermilion, and Woodford Counties.
