ICC offers eight-week construction program
Illinois Central College offers a highway construction careers training program to prepare participants for careers in the highway construction trades industry. The intensive eight-week training program covers construction math, job readiness, blueprint reading, construction technical skills, first aid, CPR, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10-hour certification. The program includes classroom learning, skills labs, and actual job site work.
The next class session begins on March 26. Participants are encouraged to attend the informational session at 11 a.m. Friday to learn more about the program. The session will be held in Room 108 of Hickory Hall, ICC North Campus, 5407 N. University, Peoria.
Successful candidates must be 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and have a valid Illinois driver’s license and consent to random drug screening. Program participants receive $5 per hour stipend, work boots, and a set of construction tools.
ICC partners with the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Community College Board to offer the program which is designed to increase the number of women, minorities, and disadvantaged individuals working on IDOT highway construction projects. The program is offered through the Corporate and Community Education Department at ICC.
