Bake sale raising money for autism
The Eureka College Teacher Education Association will observe Autism Awareness Month in April by holding a bake sale to raise money for autism awareness and research.
The bake sale will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Burgoo in the Cerf Center.
Proceeds will support Autism Speaks, an autism science and advocacy organization dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.
The Teacher Education Association also is asking the campus community to wear blue on Wednesday. Blue is the official color of the Autism Speaks organization. The color is associated with boys, and autism spectrum disorders are almost five times more common among boys than among girls.
