Eureka post office food drive May 12
The Eureka Post Office will soon be hosting its annual food drive for the Eureka Area Food Pantry.
The drive, set for May 12, is sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers. It is one of the largest food drives in the nation.
The stewart for the NALC at Eureka is Kenny Trexell.
Community members are asked to set non-perishable food items in their mailbox or at the curb to be picked up.
Brian Shirey, postmaster at the Eureka Post Office, said that there will also be a gurney inside the post office, located at 106 W. Eureka Ave., a few days before and after the food drive for people to put non-perishable items in as well.
The gurney is set up for people that may miss the donation day, along with a different way to donate in case of rain on May 12.
Posters reminding the community about the drive will be at IGA and Dollar General, and Shirey said carts should be set up at both locations for food to be placed there as well.
A reminder card will also go out the Wednesday prior to the drive. People can leave the card with the donated food if they want.
Shirey added that volunteers may be helping carriers that day in picking up the food.
