Soccer tourney coming up
Many soccer teams made up of girls and boys alike will be rallying together at Detweiller Park in Peoria the weekend of June 15 through 17 for the 31st annual 2012 River City Classic.
This tournament was established 31 years ago in 1981 and has hosted approximately 100 teams from around the Midwest annually. This year, teams from all over the Midwest will travel to Peoria to compete in one of the state’s longest running soccer invitationals.
Games will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, June 15, and at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 16 and Sunday June 17, and will continue through the afternoon each day. Trophies will be presented to 1st and 2nd place players in each division, along with participation trophies for U8 and U9 players.
The River City Classic is open to club teams and tournament teams only. Admission to this event is free for the general public and everyone is encouraged to attend.
The 16 year and under through the 19 and under teams may roster 22 players, but only 18 may participate in each match and they play 11v11 format. The 13 year and under through 15 year and under teams can roster 18 players and play 11v11 format. The 10 through 11 and under teams will play 8v8 format while the 12 and under teams play 9v9 and may roster 14 players. The 9 year and under teams will play 6v6 format and may roster 12 players. All teams may roster a maximum of four guest players.
