Fireworks and more in area on Fourth of July

THREE EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

1. Eureka will be host to a variety of events throughout the day for the Fourth of July. The morning will kick off with a breakfast served by the Eureka Sportsman Club from 7-9 a.m. at the Eureka Lake Pavilion, while lunch and dinner will be served later in the day by the Eureka Lions Club. A parade will kick off at 10 a.m. that goes down South Main Street. For the kids, a Kiwanis Fishing Derby will be from 12:30-2 p.m. in the Upper Park. Registration starts at noon for the two age divisions, 7-13 and 6 and under. There will also be an inflatable fun park for kids from 1-7 p.m., with wristbands available for $5.

2. For adults, various music groups will play until the fireworks begin at dusk over Eureka Lake. Joan Braden with Haley Reeves will play acoustic music from 3-4:30 p.m., while The New Prairie Rambles will perform music from the 1950s to today from 5-6:30 p.m. The last band, Stirring Anew, will perform lite-rock and contemporary Christian rock from 7-9 p.m. All performances will be in the Upper Park.

3. In Metamora, the Metamora-Germantown Hills Junior Woman’s Club will be displaying the Avenue of Flags from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Metamora Park on the Square. Two hundred and twenty-four flags will line the park. Volunteers are asked to come out and help put up and take down the flags.
