Snyder Village was busy with residents from the village and community on July 25 for the senior health fair.

The fair is an annual event put on by State Rep. David Leitch (R-Peoria) and State Sen. Darin LaHood (R-Dunlap).

“We’ve had this for many years,” Leitch said. “We have one here and we have one at Luther Village across the river. It’s always been a valuable time and it’s always been fun to come out here and see people. We hear from them what is on their mind. They have a lot of issues that we’re able to help them with.

“There’s a guy that came here, for example, today that came to thank my assistant for getting his death certificate straightened out because that’s a nightmare for the state department of public health.”

Besides the congressmen being there, various other agencies are invited in as well, including the State Treasurer, Secretary of State, Department of Insurance Comptroller and other senior related businesses.

“It helps provide people an opportunity to know what’s out there and know what programs in the state can benefit them and help them,” LaHood said. “It’s part of constituent service outreach to make sure we’re giving the best service we can on behalf of our two offices. We’ve had tremendous feedback today. I routinely run into people throughout the year that come to this and are thankful for the event and what we provide.

“Holding it at Snyder Village is a wonderful facility to do this. It’s a great campus here. We work to try and have other state agencies here.”
