Illinois American Water’s Peoria District invites customers to attend a community open house from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Main Station Water Treatment Plant and Water Museum located at 100 Lorentz Avenue in Peoria.  The event will offer customers the opportunity to learn more about a recent $24 million upgrade at the historic plant which helps meet new Environmental Protection Agency standards and includes ultraviolet (UV) technology.

Attendees can also visit Illinois American Water’s historic water museum as well as speak with water professionals about various topics. Representatives from Illinois American Water will be available to answer questions about the company, rate making process, environmental stewardship and system investments.

“We are excited to talk to our customers,” said president of Illinois American Water, Karla Olson Teasley.  “We’ve been providing high-quality

water service to the Peoria area for over 100 years and this event gives customers an opportunity to visit our museum and learn about the recent upgrade in water treatment.”

Many communities are facing the challenges of aging water systems. The U.S. EPA says the nation’s water utilities will need to make more than $335 billion in infrastructure investments -- $15 billion in Illinois -- over the next 20 years to replace thousands of miles of pipe and for upgrades to treatment plants, storage tanks and other assets to ensure public health.

“Investments in our local water system helps ensure water quality, service reliability and fire protection for our customers,” said Teasley.  “We encourage our customers to come out the open house and learn more about Illinois American Water.”

The event will also offer fun activities for the entire family and refreshments.  Parking for the open house is located on plant property and across the street at Grand View Drive Park. Free shuttle service will be provided.  This event will be held rain or shine.
