Library Director Nancy Scott had a wonderful surprise visit this week.

Library Director Nancy Scott had a wonderful surprise visit this week. Sophie Halpin, a Eureka Middle School fifth-grade student, stopped by Nancy’s office on Monday, Nov. 21 to present Eureka Public Library a certificate, declaring EPLD to be one of the “sustainable businesses” in Eureka, thanks to the Library’s commitment to using recycled paper.

While it is nice to be acknowledged, Director Nancy Scott makes it her personal commitment to be as “green” as possible in her personal life as well as throughout the work day at EPLD. Recognizing each decision makes a difference, Nancy continues to remind the staff to “re-use, re-cycle and re-think what we really need” whenever possible. Scott and staff alike do make reusing paper a priority whenever feasible, and choose to use recycled materials and green options in cleaning supplies, etc., whenever feasible. Thanks Sophie, for the award, for taking the time to pose with Director Nancy Scott for a quick picture, and most of all, for noticing! Awards were also given to Mika’s Coffeehouse, Givitz Nails and Objects.
