Metamora to host baseball, softball Regionals
The IHSA recently posted spring Regional and Sectional assignments, and a couple of those were awarded to Metamora High School.
Metamora will host the Class 3A baseball Regional, which will also include Kankakee, LaSalle-Peru and Streator. This Regional feeds into the LaSalle-Peru Sectional and the Rock Island Supersectional.
It’s interesting that the most of the Mid-Illini Conference teams were sent to an entirely different Supersectional bracket. East Peoria, Limestone, Morton and Washington are in the Washington Regional, which feeds into the Mahomet Sectional (Sauget Supersectional).
In other words, if Metamora is to meet one of those teams in the postseason, it would have to be in the state finals.
It would have been nice if another local rival was placed in Metamora’s Regional, but the IHSA has to mess up at least one Regional or Sectional assignment each sports season.
Metamora will also host the Class 3A softball Regional, which will include Dunlap, Richwoods, Peoria Notre Dame and Peoria Central. That Sectional site has not yet been announced.
Good new for the Metamora boys track team.
Instead of making the long trip to Rock Island this year, the Redbirds will compete in the new Dunlap Sectional. The Metamora girls, who also had to go to Rock Island the past few years, were assigned to the Macomb Sectional.
The Metamora girls soccer team is in the Morton Regional, which feeds into the Peoria Notre Dame Sectional.
The Metamora tennis team is in the Dunlap Sectional, which is a slight change form previous years when the Sectional had been held at Richwoods.
Dates and seeds for spring Regionals will be announced later in the season.
