Find What You are Looking for, @ the Library!

In case you are hiding in a bunker and haven’t noticed, it seems like we are heading towards a very hot summer. It’s only 6 a.m. but it is already hot outside and the forecast for the next several days appears to be stuck in the 90’s. Since we are not officially to summer, it looks like “hot” could be an overused word this year! So where do you hide out when the warm weather hits?

We know where some of you will be! We have already seen record numbers enrolled in our summer reading program, and if the first weeks of the program and reading logs are an indicator, we will be breaking records at EPLD this summer. It is great to see you, and we are putting our best foot forward to provide what you are looking for while you are @ the library.

We are constantly building our collection of books, movies, CDs and audios, online and “in-house.” We have databases to help you work on genealogy, research health issues, study information on consumer or financial concerns, or help you learn one of 1,000’s of new skills (Universal Class, a great online program available at the library or from home with your library card)! If we don’t own something you are needing, we do have 5 day a week delivery service bringing items from other libraries across the state (and beyond) to our door. (By the way, I just pulled the stats for our May deliveries and we averaged over 75 items a day coming and going, so when we say it isn’t a big deal to find it for you, what we mean is we are happy to have a system that works well!)

We are also doing our best to provide quality programs for all ages on our limited budget. The Children’s Library has a full schedule of events running this summer for all ages, providing everything from story times for our youngest library users to movies and guest speakers for older participants. Our middle schoolers can come to scrapbooking and cardmaking. We are also thrilled with the YAHOO’s group, (currently filled to the limit), that meets at the library every week, making movies, playing games, and enjoying their book and movie club.

What about adults? We see some of you as you leave for vacation and need books and CD’s for entertainment. Some of you are here daily, reading the newspaper and enjoying the computers and air conditioning. We’re offering several book clubs/discussion groups, knitting, crocheting, afternoon movies and guest speakers, technology help with e-readers and iPads, and our fabulous gardening and food programs that come to us through the University of Illinois Extension and the Master Gardeners. A paper copy of our program schedule is always available at the circ desk, or you can access it online at

Even with all of these opportunities, we know you might be thinking of something we haven’t covered. Take time to stop by and tell us what that might be. We are always on the look-out for a new author, a new book or movie, or a new program suggestion. We welcome your input!

So, take a moment this week and come by the library. We’ll do our best to provide what you are looking for, @ the library!
