Three injured when trooper loses control of car

The Illinois State Police have released a Sept. 11 crash report involving a trooper working out of the Germantown Hills Station.

The report states at 9:09 p.m. Sept. 11 on Farmington Road, 790 feet north of Main Street, trooper John W. Ritchie, 24, was injured in a car crash and transported to OSF St Francis Medical Center.

His police vehicle — a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria — reportedly sustained  damage of $10,000

The other driver was Kyle Stover, 24, of Bloomington. He was also transported to the hospital. Stover had two passengers — Samantha Welch, 24, of Edwards, and Katrina Porter, 24, of Brimfield. Welch was transported to the hospital.

Stover was driving a  Silver 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix. Damage to his vehicle was estimated at $10,000.

Ritchie, driving a marked Illinois State Police squad car, was southbound on Farmington Road 790 feet north of Main Street, attempting to catch up to a violator.

Stover was northbound on Farmington Road, just south of Ritchie’s location.

Ritchie said he hit his brakes too late going into the curve and lost control. The squad car spun around and struck Stover’s vehicle.

The three transported to OSF St Francis Medical Center were treated for minor injuries.
