Eureka College announces homecoming events

Eureka College homecoming activities with the theme “The 1990s” will take place Sept. 25 through Oct. 1.

Events that are open to the public are:

Sunday, Sept. 25  A panel-painting competition will take place from noon to 6 p.m. on the lawn  at Burgess Memorial Hall..

Wednesday, Sept. 28 The women’s and men’s soccer teams will play Illinois College at 2 p.m. and  4 p.m., respectively, at Traister Field on Reagan Drive. At 7:30 p.m. a chant and skit competition will take place at the Cerf Center. It  will be followed by a torch-light parade that will begin behind Burgess  Memorial Hall and culminate at Lida’s Lawn on Burgess Avenue, where a  bonfire will be held, followed by fireworks.

Thursday, Sept. 29  At 7 p.m. a student talent competition featuring guest emcee comedian  Jared Logan will take place at the Cerf Center.

Friday, Sept. 30 Melick Library will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Homecoming convocation will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Cerf Center, where the homecoming royal court will be announced. Competitive games will begin at 1 p.m. behind Reagan Physical Education Center. An athletic Hall of Fame induction will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Cerf Center. A pep rally, “Homecoming Happening,” will be at 9 p.m. at Reagan Center.

Saturday, Oct. 1  Homecoming Day festivities will begin with a reception for theater alumni  from 9 to 11 a.m. at Pritchard Theatre. English professor Loren Logsdon and  President J. David Arnold will sign copies of their book “Stories  ‘neath the Elms: Eureka College 1940-1970” from 9 to 10 a.m. in the alumni  welcome center in Burrus Dickinson Hall. Free tours of the Mark R.  Shenkman Reagan Research Center in Melick Library will be from 10:30 to  11:30 a.m. Melick Library will continue its  book sale from 8:30 a.m. to  12:30 p.m. The homecoming parade, with Eureka College Learning Center     Director Jason Zimmerman as grand marshal, will step off from downtown Eureka at 10 a.m. and can be viewed from College Avenue on  the campus. Parade entries from the community are being sought. To participate, contact Mason Harmon at mharmon@eureka.edu.  The McKinzie Field Tailgate Barbeque will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the football field. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 4 through 12. The rain site is the Cerf Center. The alumni hospitality area at the football field will include children’s activities and a silent auction. The Eureka College Red Devils will play the Westminster College Blue Jays at 1 p.m. at McKinzie Field. Half-time will include introductions of homecoming royalty and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees.
