Eureka College Homecoming starts Sunday

THREE EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

1.The Eureka College Homecoming, with the theme “Where the Magic Begins,” kicks off Sunday with a panel-painting competition from noon to 6 p.m. on the lawn at Burgess Memorial Hall on College Avenue. On Oct. 3, the women’s and men’s soccer teams will play MacMurray College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, at Traister Field on Reagan Drive. At 8 p.m. a chant and skit competition will take place at the Cerf Center. It will be followed by a torch parade that will begin behind Burgess Memorial Hall and culminating at Ivy Hall, where a bonfire will be held, followed by fireworks.

2. At 7 p.m. Oct. 4, a student talent competition featuring guest emcee comedian Pete Lee will take place at the Cerf Center. The next day, Melick Library will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Homecoming convocation will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Cerf Center, where the homecoming royal court will be announced. Competitive games will begin at 1 p.m. behind Reagan Physical Education Center. An Athletic Hall of Fame induction will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Cerf Center. A pep rally, “Homecoming Happening,” will be at 9 p.m. at Reagan Center.

3. Oct. 6 will kick off with a hospitality center for alumni from 9 to 10 a.m. at Burrus Dickinson Hall. A reception for theater alumni will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. at Pritchard Theatre. Melick Library will continue its book sale from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The homecoming parade, with mathematics professor Prabhu Venkataraman as grand marshal will step off from downtown Eureka at 10 a.m. and can be viewed from College Avenue on the campus. The volleyball team will play Principia College at 10 a.m. and Webster University at 4 p.m. in Reagan Center. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Dickinson Commons. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 through 12. The women’s and men’s soccer teams will face Fontbonne University at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. An alumni hospitality area at the football field will include children’s activities and a silent auction. The Eureka College Red Devils will play the Martin Luther College Knights at 1 p.m. at McKinzie Field. Half-time will include introductions of Homecoming royalty and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees.
