Tazwood Community Services, Inc. has been designated by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to administer the 2013 Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program for Tazewell and Woodford Counties.

LIHEAP offers help with heating bills for qualifying low-income households.

Some LIHEAP clients will have the option of choosing between the traditional Direct Vendor Payment plan or the new Percentage of Income Payment Plan.

The PIPP is available to eligible LIHEAP clients who are customers of Ameren Illinois, ComEd, Nicor Gas and Peoples Gas/North Shore Gas.  Under PIPP, the eligible client will pay a percentage of their income, receive a monthly benefit towards their utility bill, and receive a reduction in overdue payments for every on-time payment they make by the bill due date.

The traditional DVP plan is a one-time payment.

Beginning on Monday, elderly persons (age 60 or over) and/or persons who receive (or have applied for) disability income, any household who is disconnected and households with children under the age of 5 may make an appointment to apply at intake sites scheduled throughout Tazewell and Woodford Counties.

A household may qualify if its gross income for the 30 days preceding application does not exceed $1,396 for a one person household; $1,891 for a two person household; $2,386 for a three person household; or $2,881 for a four person household.

Residents may walk-in or start calling the Tazwood office at 8 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. Monday at 266-9941 or 694-4391 to schedule an appointment to make an application. (Due to the start-up of PIPP, LIHEAP clients may experience longer wait times when applying for service).
