New mayor pushing for Eastern Bypass

METAMORA — Metamora Mayor Ken Maurer said during the May 14 Metamora Area Business Association meeting that he wants the village of Metamora to get behind the Eastern Bypass.

Maurer said the Village Board would need to pass a resolution saying it supports the bypass.

He also said that the bypass would not be built for a while.

"We're looking at the future, here," he said.

The bypass is being designed to extend Illinois Route 6 across the river, linking it back to Illinois Route 74.

Maurer said the bypass will be a good thing for the economy.

"It's amazing how much the economy depends on transportation," he said.

MABA President Kip DuBois said he has not heard much about the Eastern Bypass in a while, but he said from what he knows that it sounds like a good idea.

"From a business standpoint, I think it's a huge benefit," DuBois said.
