The 2014 Community Holiday Basket Drive Committee is again focusing on providing baskets to area residents prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. Three area churches have joined forces to jump start this drive.

The baskets consist of staple items, perishables and beauty and paper products to help during the holidays.

This year the committee will be filling 100 baskets at a cost of $60 per basket.

This drive is possible due to the donations from the community, schools and businesses. Every donation counts in helping make another family’s holiday a little brighter.

The four feeder schools

are Metamora Grade School, St. Mary’s, Germantown Hills and Riverview’s Student councils along with the Metamora IGA will also be involved in helping raise money for the cause.

Checks can be made out to the Community Holiday Basket Fund.

These donations may be taken or mailed to the Commerce Bank, Englewood Drive, Metamora, IL 61548.

Anyone who lives in the Metamora Township High School district in need would be eligible for a basket.

Contact Lisa Obery 1025 County Rd 1500N, Metamora, IL 61548, phone 309-657-5394 or email her at

All names are kept confidential. If submitting a family’s name, be sure to contact that family first and ask if they would be willing to accept a basket. We want all baskets picked up on that Saturday or arrangements made prior to pickup.

The sorting and distributions of these baskets will occur the week of Nov. 19-22.

Basket pick-up will be 8-11 a.m. Nov. 22 at the Christian Union Church in Metamora.

The chairmen for this year is Lisa Obery, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, along with Mike Danner from the Metamora Mennonite Church and Gary Salm from the Christian Union Church.

The Community Holiday Basket Fund offers area residents the opportunity to provide a brighter holiday for those less fortunate in the community.
