EUREKA — Virgil E. “Bud” Funk, 85, of Eureka, died at 6:04 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal.

Born June 13, 1925, in Gridley, to Silas and Elda Wittmer Funk, he married Shirley M. Wagenbach Oct. 14, 1962, in Tremont.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley, of almost 48 years, five daughters, Susan Funk, Connie Hasty (Earl-dec.) both of Eureka; Ruth Funk of El Paso; Miriam (Doug) Kath of Bloomington; Sarah (Larry) Gerber of New Haven, Ind.; four sons, Roger (Bonnie) Funk of El Paso; Mark (Becky) Funk of Gridley; James Funk of Normal; Ben Funk of Chicago; 10 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, seven step great-grandchildren, 17 brother-in-laws, and 15 sister-in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Irsel Funk; one son-in-law, Earl Hasty; one sister-in-law, Tammy Wagenbach; and one brother-in-law, Nelson Rocke.

He attended Midstate College in Peoria, graduating in 1958. He operated his parents farm for about 10 years. He worked in Chicago for a short period of time and was employed at Country Companies for more than 34 years until his retirement in 1994.

An Army veteran, he served his country during the Korean War for 17 months.

He was a member of the Congerville Apostolic Christian Church.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at the Congerville Apostolic Christian Church. Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Gridley Cemetery with a graveside service at 2 p.m.
