Obituary: Rita Reich, 80, Eureka

EUREKA — Rita F. Reich, 80, of Eureka, died at 9:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at Advocate BroMenn Hospital in Normal.

Born Aug. 3, 1930, in El Paso, to Louis F. and Margaret Seggerman Rippel, she married Herman Reich Aug. 5, 1951, at the El Paso Trinity Lutheran Church. He survives.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years,Herman; two sisters-in-law, Agusta “Tootie” (Ena, deceased) Folkers of Dwight; and Erma (Oscar, deceased) Reich of Aurora.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was Trinity Lutheran Church’s first secretary. She took shorthand and did typing for the church’s first pastor while still in high school. After graduation from El Paso Township High School, she was employed by Pfister Associated Growers until they moved to Aurora. She then worked for the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service in McLean and Woodford counties until she retired in 1982.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church since the church was dedicated in 1951. She was one of the 12 choir members who took first place in the District 2 choir contest in Springfield, in 1952. She was also a member of the church’s Ladies Aid where she held various offices.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26, at her church. The Rev. Jonathan Boehne will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday at Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka.
