Obituary: NORENE WUETHRICH, 92, Eureka

EUREKA — Norene Sarah Wuethrich, 92, of Eureka, died at 11:32 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born May 26, 1918, in Woodford County to Levi and Ruth Carney Bechtel, she married Richard Wargo in Eureka in 1941. He died June 22, 1971. She then married John Wuethrich March 23, 1985. He died Jan. 20, 1998.

Surviving are one son, Rich Wargo of Palm Springs, Calif.; one daughter, Marilyn Wargo of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; and two sisters, Edith Roemersberger and Jean (Robert) Knapp, both of Eureka.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ruth Butler and Eddis Swineheart.

She attended Eureka College and Illinois State University.

She taught at one-room school houses, Danforth School in Tazewell County and Ray School in Woodford County.

After getting married, she moved to Storrs, Conn. During World War II she moved to Chicago. She later moved back to Storrs, Conn.

She worked as an editor at UCONN and also in the student union office.

After returning to Eureka, she worked in the bookstore at ICC. She donated all of her books to the Lakeview Museum in Peoria and the Et Cetera shop in Eureka.

She was a member of the Eureka Christian Church and DAR for many years.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at the Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka. The Rev. Jennie Churchman will officiate. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. before the service. Burial will be in Olio Township Cemetery.
