Wesley Burton Trantina, 76, of Benson, IL passed away at 4:25 pm Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Roanoke.

He was born on June 24, 1935 in Benson, IL to Carl and Florence Bill Trantina. He married Joyce Gerjets on June 19, 1955 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Benson. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Kevin (Deborah) Trantina of Germantown Hills; Russ (Connie) Trantina of Peoria; two daughters, Gretchen (Jim) Janssen of Benson; Heidi (Jeff) Burtis of East Peoria; one brother Jerry Trantina of Benson; and eight grandchildren, Abby Trantina; Tamra and Austin Trantina; Nick and Cole Janssen; and Jakob, Hayden, and Sydney Burtis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Stacey Jo, and one brother, Elwood.

Wes served his country and was an Army veteran.

He worked as a computer systems analyst at WABCO in Peoria before he retired in 1992.

Wes was an avid woodworker. He and his wife participated in many craft shows showcasing their creations for many years. People would drive from miles around as he was also known for his Christmas lights which he spent days preparing for others enjoyment.

He loved his two Maltese dogs which were his pride and joy, but most of all he loved his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

Wes was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Benson where funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday. The Rev. William Hecht will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:30 at the church prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke is in charge of arrangements.
