Obituary: Richard Acker, 89, of Eureka

Eureka- Richard "Dick" C. Acker, 89, of Eureka, died at 2:35 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Dick was born May 15, 1922, in East Chicago, Ind., a son of Frederick W. and Allie J. Councilman Acker. He married Marilyn J. Moore Sept. 7, 1945, in Whiting, Ind. She died Feb. 4, 2008.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Shadburne Ayers (George) of Louisville, Ky.; Bonnie French Germ (Greg) of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; and three grandchildren; and one sister, Alyce Super of Brenham, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters.

Dick was a manufacturer’'s representative for over 58 years. He worked for Inland Steel Corporation; owner of Dick Charles 18 piece dance band; H.E. Johnson and Son Funeral Home; Dell-Storm Products, Inc.; and Globe Industries, where he retired in 1983.

He was very active in the community. Dick was a Eureka City Councilman and a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shrine and Consistry, American Legion, Kaufman Park Golf Course, and Lakeside Country Club in Bloomington.

A memorial service for Dick will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at Eureka Christian Church. The Rev. Jennie Churchman will officiate. According to the family’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Private family interment will be held at Olio Township Cemetery. Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka is handling arrangements for the family.
