Obituary: Everett Moss, 87, Eureka

Everett C. Moss, 87 of Eureka, formerly of East Peoria, died at 12:04 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at Eureka Hospital.

Born on Jan. 14, 1925, in Pocahontas to Clifton and Ruth McIntyre Moss, he married Valeria J. Smith on Sept. 6, 1944, in Greenville. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert (Alice) Moss of East Peoria and Larry (Lou) Moss of Milton, Fla.; one daughter, Lynette (Tim) Mannos of Washington; eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren and one infant brother, Robert.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a gunner’s mate on transport ships in the Atlantic and the Pacific.

After his time in the military he worked as a sign painter at Smith Sign Co. in Peoria. He eventually purchased the business and operated it until his retirement in 1982.

He resided in Creve Coeur and East Peoria for many years. He retired to Sullivan before returning to Eureka to be near his family.

Visitation was Saturday at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Cremation will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Matthew Mannos Nursing Scholarship Fund – c/o Heartland Bank in Washington.
