Obituary: Thomas Bertram, 75, Eureka

Thomas W. “Tom” Bertram, 75, of Eureka died at 5:41 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at his residence in Eureka.

Born on May 21, 1936, in Rossville to Leonard and Dorothy Denney Bertram, he married Marian M. Peterson on June 17, 1954, in Rossville. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Leslie (Ron) Sanches of Houston, Lisa Reinmann of Eureka and Laura Pierceall of Goodfield; two sons, Scott (Meri) Bertram of Forsyth and Mark (Holly) Bertram of Evansville, Ind.; one brother, Kenneth (Virginia) Bertram of Aberdeen, N.C.; two sisters, Wilma Gholson of Hoopeston and Judy (Ed) Curtin of Woolwich, Maine; one sister-in-law Anise Bertram of N.C.; one uncle, LeRoy Bertram of Atlanta; 16 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

He drove a truck for over 25 years, last working for Gateway Freightline. After retiring from driving a truck, he drove a school bus for District No. 140 for 10 years.

Earlier in his career he had been an Illinois State Trooper.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp where he served in Korea.

He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Eureka American Legion Post No. 466, and Teamsters Local No. 627 in Peoria.

Funeral services were Monday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joe Burns will officiated. Visitation was Sunday at the church and prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Burial will be in Olio Township Cemetery with full military rites.

Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka is handling arrangements for the family.
