Obituary: Marie Swanson, 98, Metamora

Marie V. (Brown) Swanson, age 98, of Peoria, formerly of Metamora, died at 8:20 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria.

Born Jan. 15, 1914, in Lincoln to Abraham and Ethel (Sturgeon) Fulscher, she married Leo Brown Jr. on June 20, 1936, in Peoria. He died in 1963. She then married Leonard Swanson on Aug. 2, 1969, in Peoria. He died in 1995.

Surviving is one son, James Brown of Peoria; a stepdaughter, Rita (Arthur) Carlson of Luing, La.; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Ruby Robbins of Rossville and Irene Krus of Peoria.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Brown; a stepdaughter, Sharon Swanson; and two brothers and one sister.

She was a secretary working at WABCO in Peoria for 25 years and retiring in 1976.

She was a member of Parkview Christian Church in Peoria and she had a great love for her children.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Parkview Christian Church, with the Rev. Steve Barch officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her church.
