Obituary: Roland Martin, 83, Eureka

Roland Lee “Swifty” Martin, 83, of Eureka died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, April 22, 2012, at the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka.

Born on Sept. 7, 1928, in Eureka to George and Ruth Anliker Martin, He married Deloris Wittmer on Aug. 2, 1959, in Eureka. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Bruce (Annie) Martin of Congerville and Dean (Becki) Martin of Eureka; two daughters, Lois Oltman of Los Angeles and Janice (Keith) Chickering of Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers, Melvin Martin and Bill (Norma) Martin both of Eureka, and Roger (Ruth) Martin of Dunlap; four sisters, Mary Anderson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Verna Lott of Washington, Esther (Gordon) Hoffman of Peoria and Marge Honeg of Washington; six grandsons, and two granddaughters.

Roland was a farmer for 30 years and then worked in the farm department at Farm and Fleet of Morton where he retired.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a non combatant during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of the Eureka Apostolic Christian Church where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Church ministers will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka and from 9-9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church before the service. Burial will be in the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial contributions may be made to the Eureka Apostolic Christian Home or the Advocate-Eureka Hospital Expansion Project.
