Obituary: Edith M. Roemersberger, 95, of Eureka

Eureka - Edith M. Roemersberger, 95, of Eureka, died at 3:38 a.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Maple Lawn Health Center in Eureka where she was a resident.

Born on May 2, 1917, in rural Eureka to Levi J. and Ruth Carney Bechtel, she married Warren A. Roemersberger on June 30, 1939, in Eureka. He died Oct. 22, 1993.

Surviving are four sons, David (Judy) Roemersberger of Washington; Alan (Nita) Roemersberger of Apache Junction, Ariz.; Don (Arlene) Roemersberger of Morton; Gary (Kimberlee) Roemersberger of Normal; one sister, Jean (Bob) Knapp of Eureka; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.             

Edith taught school in a one-room school at Chaffer School in Tazewell County and at Galey School in Woodford County.  She also taught piano for many years.              

She was a member of the Eureka Christian Church where she played piano and taught Sunday School. She was active in Christian Women’s Fellowship, Daughter’s of American Revolution, Peoria Area Music Teacher’s Association, and Woodford County Historical Society.  She wrote a book called “Ruth’s Story” about her mother and liked to research genealogy.  She also played the grand piano at Maple Lawn.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at the Eureka Christian Church.  The Rev. Jennie Churchman will officiate.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka and from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the church before the service. Burial will be in Olio Township Cemetery.
