Obituary: Willard L. Shanklin, 83, Eureka

EUREKA - Willard L. Shanklin, 83, of Eureka died at 5:47 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at the Eureka Apostolic Christian Home.

He was born on Oct. 26, 1929, in rural Toluca, a son of Walter and Elsie Holz Shanklin. He married Rosalee M. Cave on Sept. 7, 1958, in Streator. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Richard (Vicki) Shanklin of Toluca; one daughter, Sharon (Gregory) Breuer of Jefferson City, Mo.; two grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine Montgomery of Peoria, and Doris Jean (F. Lee) Hull of Fresno, Calif.; and five brothers, Wayne Shanklin of Toluca, Dr. Kenneth (Colleen) Shanklin of San Antonio, Texas, Roger (Sheila) Shanklin of Lexington, Robert Shanklin of Toluca, and James Shanklin of Varna.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dean Shanklin.

Willard was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as staff sergeant during the Korean conflict.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka. The Rev. Jennie Churchman officiated. Visitation was held on Wednesday, Nov. 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded.
