Obituary: Albert Gavin, 88, Metamora

METAMORA — Albert "Peter" Gavin, 88, of Metamora died at 1:08 a.m. Dec. 21, 2012, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

Born on April 7, 1924, in Lake Geneva, Wis., to Paul and Blanche Robinson Gavin, he married Leona Brandt in Evanston on July 20, 1946. She preceded him in death.

His parents; two daughters, Carol Goff and Mary Faust; three brothers, Tom, Bob and Paul; as well as one sister, Helena, preceded him in death as well.

Surviving are his children, Michael (Gloria) Gavin of Argentona, Spain, Nancy (Dan) Rybaski of Lyndon Station, Wis., Joan (Dave) Brown of Paris, Marcia (Jim) Kaplan of Lisle, and Dan (Lisa) Gavin of Brimfield; one sister, Florence Gavin of Sinsinawa, Wis.; two sons-in-law, Dan Faust of Shelton, Wash., and Waldo Goff of Crawford, Neb.; 20 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He served in the military as a U.S. Navy seal. His prized accomplishment was the invention of the sodium immersible high temperature microphone.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank all of the caring staff at Snyder Village Assisted Living and Methodist Medical Center for their loving care during his recent illness. The prayers and support of all family and friends are also greatly appreciated.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Metamora, with Father Don Roszkowski celebrating.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue until his time of service, also at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Metamora.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to Assisted Living at Snyder Village.
