Richwoods pitcher Morgan Bothast (No. 2), third baseman Kelli Dunne (center) and first baseman Jenny Kistner meet at the mound. Dunne had a grand slam and five RBIs. Bothast pitched a complete-game shutout as Ricwoods beat Dunlap, 10-0 Monday.

Richwoods softball coach Kurt Mankle injured his foot over the weekend, so he walked with a slight limp Monday, and he barely scampered out of the way of a foul ball that whizzed straight for the dugout.

But, Mankle’s team is not limping down the stretch.

The Knights are making a late-season charge, which Mankle said he likes to see, after an up-and-down season so far.

“Everything is coming together. We’re seeing the ball well, and scoring some runs, and the pitching has been better,” said Mankle, after a 10-0 win at Dunlap Monday. “I like what I’m seeing over the last week or so.”

Dunlap pitcher Kelsay Kemmann hit leadoff hitter Shyla Nott in the back to start the game, and it didn’t get any better for the Eagles.

In the second inning, Richwoods third baseman Kelli Dunne hit a grand slam with two outs to make it 6-0.

Dunlap only had two hits against Richwoods pitcher Morgan Bothast.

“Morgan is pitching with a lot of confidence,” Mankle said. “She’s had a few good outings in a row.”

Bothast and Jenny Kistner each had two hits for the Knights. Nott had two RBIs and Katie Montez had a double.

The two teams will play a regular-season doubleheader May 27 at Richwoods, and they will meet in the first round of the Metamora Regional May 27.

“We’ll see them a lot over the next couple weeks, so we’ll know what they’re all about, but they will know us, too, so I don’t think it gives us a big advantage,” Mankle said.

Richwoods is now 11-9.

Their Mid-State 6 Conference rival, Peoria Notre Dame, fell to 7-16, after a 6-2 loss at East Moline Monday.

Julie Mayernich went 2-for-4 for Notre Dame, which will play top-seeded Metamora in the first round of the Metamora Regional May 27.

The winner of that Regional will advance to the Washington Sectional, which starts June 3.
