METAMORA GIRLS BB

The Metamora High School girls basketball team beat Canton, a team that has not won a conference game all year, 63-39, at home Tuesday night.

Joelie Zwick scored 22 points for the Redbirds (6-14, 4-4). Anna Gualandri and Kyler Samp each scored 13 points.

“Defensively, we stayed aggressive. Offensively, we moved the ball better. We had a good few days of practice, where we were getting back to moving the ball like we envisioned we could from the beginning of the season,” said Metamora coach Steve Gorrell.

METAMORA BOYS BB

The Metamora High School boys basketball team improved to 4-1 in the Mid-Illini Conference after a 56-42 win over Canton Tuesday night.

Jared Dehm had 11 rebounds and the Redbirds owned a 28-20 rebounding edge.

“About 10 days ago, we put more emphasis on rebounding,” said Metamora coach Danny Grieves. “We did more rebounding drills in practice, and it’s been paying off. Jared is so active on the boards. He has a nose for the ball.”

Sophomore guard Joe Kennell hit five three-pointers and scored a game-high 22 points.

EUREKA BOYS BB

The Eureka High School boys basketball team lost 65-57 at home to Peoria Christian. Jared McCunn scored 28 points for the Hornets (9-7), who rallied with 39 points in the second half after scoring just 18 pints on the first half.
