Eureka runner races at Regional

Eureka College junior Zach Ahrends (Graymont/Pontiac H.S.) completed the 8K course at Saturday's NCAA Midwest Regional in 27:35, representing the Eureka College cross country team with a 154th place finish at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Oshkosh, Wis.

Ahrends was the only Eureka Red Devil to make it to the postseason for the cross country team.

A total of 271 participants from 40 different schools ran in the Regional race.

Ahrends earned the 12th-highest finish among St. Louis Intercollegaite Athletic Conference runners on Saturday with a strong showing on the course. Principia's Wylie Mangelsdorf placed 12th overall as the top SLIAC performer.

The Panthers earned a 13th-place team finish.

Defending Division III national champion North Central placed all five of its scorers in the top-25 to claim the team championship on Saturday. Wisconsin-Stout senior Tim Nelson won the individual crown in a time of 24:24, two seconds better than runner-up Yonatan Mascote of North Central.
